This work is about a man looking for his own kind in a totalitarian society. I liken what I can’t say or post in public to a kind of code that reminds me of passing notes in class when I was a kid. If the student is caught talking in class, he will be punished. Although corporal punishment is almost extinct in China today, it was still common when I was a child, and society was ignorant and numb to it. It’s a state of acquiescence.
